The Project

Vox Mundi Project—“Voice of the Worlds”—is an international educational and artistic initiative devoted to the living power of the voice as a bridge between cultures, consciousness, and community. Founded in 1988 by Grammy®-nominated composer, interdisciplinary voice-artist, author, educator, and listening scholar Silvia Nakkach, Vox Mundi brings together sacred, indigenous, and classical musical traditions within a contemporary, experiential framework. Rooted in over four decades of research, teaching, and performance, the project integrates music, contemplative practice, and sound-based healing into a unified path of study and transformation. At its core, Vox Mundi is a global learning community—spanning the Americas, Europe, and Asia—where students, artists, and practitioners engage deeply with the voice as an instrument of awareness, creativity, and connection. Vox Mundi is not only a Project or a School—it is a field of practice. Whether you are a beginner, a professional musician, a healer, or a seeker, you are invited to enter a space where the voice becomes a path: to listen more deeply, to create more freely, and to participate in the re-enchantment of the world.

The Mission
Vox Mundi exists to preserve, transmit, and revitalize the world’s sacred and ancestral vocal traditions while making them accessible and relevant for contemporary life. This includes:
  • Safeguarding endangered musical lineages through archival recordings and direct transmission
  • Supporting master teachers and lineage holders through residencies, retreats, and study programs
  • Cultivating the voice as a tool for healing, self-knowledge, and spiritual practice
  • Advancing research in sound, consciousness, and transcultural listening practices
  • Bringing music into schools, healthcare, performance venues, yoga sites, and community spaces as a force for well-being, social transformation, and peace.
The work is grounded in a deep respect for tradition alongside a commitment to innovation, allowing ancient practices to remain alive, evolving, and embodied.
The Vision
Vox Mundi envisions a world reconnected through listening. A world where:
  • The voice, sound , and music are recognized as the primary instruments of consciousness expansion
  • Music becomes a pathway to cultivate empathy, collective intelligence, and inner balance
  • Deep listening restores our relationship to self, others, and the environment
  • Cultural exchange fosters global understanding and long-lasting human equality
  • Artistic practice contributes to collective healing and ecological consciousness

Through its programs, events, and concerts, Vox Mundi invites participants into a lifelong journey of awakening perception—what we call quantum listening: the ability to sense the subtle interplay between sound, silence, and consciousness.

Lineage & Foundations
The teachings of Vox Mundi arise from a rich and diverse lineage mandala, grounded in both discipline and direct experience.

Primary foundations include:

  • Hindustani classical music and the Maihar Seni gharana, transmitted through the guidance of Maestro Ali Akbar Khan
  • Dhrupad and Nāda Yoga traditions, with master teachers including Pt. Uday Bhawalkar and the Dagar lineage
  • Contemplative and spiritual traditions including Tibetan Buddhism (Dzogchen), Dharma Art, and sound healing practices
  • Depth psychology and consciousness studies (transpersonal psychology, Gestalt, Enneagram, psychodrama)
  • Indigenous and shamanic vocal traditions from the Amazon, Afro-Brazilian lineages, and global chant practices
  • Western classical, experimental, and contemporary music traditions

This multidimensional foundation allows Vox Mundi to uniquely bridge rigorous musical training with inner development and cross-cultural understanding.
